  • Cancer patients, and survivors, can find a few moments of relaxation while improving muscle strength and flexibility during yoga sessions offered by Lake Regional Cancer Center.
The free yoga sessions are scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning July 24, in the Cancer Center’s conference room.
“Yoga has proven to have numerous health benefits, including stress reduction, muscle strengthening and toning, improved balance and flexibility and greater range of motion,” said Marcy Maxwell, R.N., Cancer Center director. “Treatment for cancer affects everyone differently. Yoga can help relax the mind and body, while helping to maintain, or regain, overall strength.”
Yoga for Cancer Patients will be led by Lake Regional’s Jennifer Newman, R.N., CEN, cPT, nurse educator in the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department.
Individuals of all activity levels are encouraged to participate. Chairs can be used for those with limited balance.
Registration is encouraged for the first session. To sign up, call 573-302-2899.
Lake Regional offers a variety of educational programming topics during the year, such as diabetes, heart disease and childhood obesity. Several health fairs and screenings also are held annually throughout the lake area. For information on upcoming events, visit lakeregional.com/events.
