An Englewood, Co. man drowned in Lake of the Ozarks during the July 4 weekend.

What started as a holiday filled with fun turned tragic when an Englewood, Colo. man drowned in Lake of the Ozarks July 4.

Justin Byrd was on a Premiere Pontoon boat anchored in Anderson Hollow Cove — better known to many as Party Cove — on the 4 mile marker of the Grand Glaize Arm before going overboard.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol online report, the 30-year-old was on a boat anchored with other boats when he fell off the back of the vessel and into the water. The report indicates Byrd was submerged for five minutes before others realized he was missing and called for assistance.

The incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. on July 4.

This is the first boating fatality that Troop F has reported for July and the third one for 2014.
