  • This year, spring weather and water levels at the Lake of the Ozarks were nearly perfect for approximately 60 volunteer groups that participated in the 23nd Annual Adopt-the-Shoreline Cleanup. The 488 volunteers who supported the groups cleaned more than 475 miles of shoreline. The total 641 cubic yards of trash and debris removed collectively weighed more than 25 tons.
"The weather reminded us why it's so much fun to be on the Lake during a spring cleanup. Mother Nature provided sunny skies and great temperatures, which made for an enjoyable time," said Bryan Vance, coordinator of Adopt-the-Shoreline. "Often during cleanup activities, weather conditions present a significant challenge to our volunteers. This year, we were fortunate."
Adopt-the-Shoreline is sponsored by Ameren Missouri, which provides administrative support, supplies trash bags, and pays for disposal of debris and trash. The program is part of Ameren Missouri's continuing commitment as a responsible steward of the Lake and its environment. These cleanups are performed entirely by volunteers that span 12 geographic zones along the Lake.
Ameren Missouri paid more than $9,000 to dispose of the trash and debris collected. In addition, numerous local organizations and individuals chipped into the effort by donating boats and other equipment the volunteers needed tomake the event successful.
Adopt-the-Shoreline began in 1994 with nine civic clubs adopting 89 miles of shoreline. Today, it includes more than 90 businesses, organizations and individual property owners, who have adopted more than 700 miles of shoreline between Bagnell Dam and Truman Dam.
