  • An early Tuesday morning crash required the helicopter evacuation of two seriously-injured people.
Nathan Gibson, 26, of Barnett, was driving a 1998 Toyota truck on Highway 52 in Morgan County around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday when he crossed the center line and struck two vehicles.
The first vehicle was a 1993 Kenworth semi driven by Louis Kloeptel, 72, of Meta, Mo. The second vehicle was a 2005 Pontiac driven by Matthew Dietrick, 28, of Kansas City, Mo. Dietrick and a passenger, Brett Braun, 31, of Lake Ozark, sustained injuries that prompted a Staff for Life evacuation.
Both men were taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
Gibson and Kloeptel did not sustain injuries according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.
The report indicated that only Kloeptel was definitely wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It is unknown whether Dietrick or Braun was wearing a seat belt.
Both passenger vehicles were totaled, the semi received extensive damage.
