  • On Saturday, May 29, the Northwest Fire Protection District held an event to recognize the many contributions to the district by outgoing president of the board of directors, Wendell Parrish, and to acknowledge the excellent work of the volunteer firefighters as well as the auxiliary groups which support the district. Wendell Parrish led the District though a period of challenge, growth and change. He was honored at the event, and awarded a plaque noting his strong vision and exemplary leadership. Wendell served on the Board as president from 2008 to 2014 guiding the District to many improvements in services to the community.
The Volunteer Firefighters provide immeasurably valuable protection to the District. Not only are the individual homeowners’ properties protected, but also the safety of the individuals who are affected. Rescue and emergency medical services are another part of the services of this group of talented and dedicated men and women. Other community properties also enjoy the benefits of their services. These highly trained and intensely dedicated Volunteers were acknowledged for the important services which they render.
An organization such as the NWFPD relies heavily upon the volunteer spirit of its participants for success. Five important auxiliary groups which contribute immensely to the success of NWFPD are The Firebirds, The Embers, The Fire Flies, The Fire Flickers, and The Lightning Bugs. Among other activities, they conduct fundraisers to purchase equipment for the stations, most recently an ambulance, Automatic Defibrillation Equipment, and other necessary equipment for the department. Currently, they are in process of purchasing an infra-red camera for department use along with other miscellaneous purchases. Fundraisers such as an annual bean dinner, BBQ’s, chicken noodle dinners, bake sales and garage sales are among their activities.
