  • Letter to the editor: Wait for investigations to end

Wow. After reading the letter in Friday's paper I believe the writer would fit in nicely with Rep Issa and Company. I am waiting for the official investigation into this tragedy before drawing any conclusions as should every one concerned.
The initial report in the paper stated that Mr. Ellingson was handcuffed and then a life jacket was placed on him. The article stated further, while the trooper was trying to get him back in the boat the life jacket came off and Mr. Ellingson was foundering. The trooper jumped into the lake but was unable to save Mr. Ellingson.
What should be obvious to any boater is if Mr. Ellingson was handcuffed first it would be impossible to properly fit a life jacket. It would also be obvious that if the jacket was put on properly, i.e. with arms through the sleeves and then handcuffed, it would be virtually impossible to take the jacket off.
If the original report is accurate, it would be interesting to see what the Water Patrol heads say about arrest procedures and manning of patrol boats.
