  • Five senior football players from Camdenton High School took part in the 13th annual Grin Iron Classic Football Game on Friday, June 6, at JFK Stadium in Springfield.
Laker quaterback Bo Dean, wide receiver Ryan Elliott, linebacker Shayne Cook, defensive back Elijah Ollison and outside linebacker Matt Endsley were on the roster for the East team.
The result of the contest was that the East got just its second win in the series, besting the West 40-27.
A lot of the credit for the win could be given to Dean, as he was the East’s Offensive MVP due to his passing for four touchdowns during his time on the field.
Elliott had a touchdown catch in the game and Cook recovered a fumble. Cook, Endsley and Ollison all contributed tackles for the East defense and special teams.
“We’ve had an MVP in this game for three years in a row now. Ryan ran his routes well and did a good job of getting open. All of our defensive players made some really key stops that allowed the offense to do what it did. Bo did a great job of running the offense and Coach Acklin was great in putting them in position to succeed. The West team usually pulls from a lot of bigger schools, so Coach [Darin] Acklin wanted to get as many of our players as he could because we play a lot of bigger schools. Having five players on the team is a lot. For the East, getting the win, and putting up 40 points along the way, was a great showing for the East team,” Camdenton head coach Jeff Shore said.
Players were selected from a pool of high school seniors who either were going on to play college football or had been named to their classes’ All-State teams.
After being nominated by the area coaches, the five Camdenton players were confirmed on to the roster by the Acklin, who is the head coach at Liberty-Mountain View.
Proceeds from the game support the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a mobile dental clinic for children who lack access to dental care. The event is sponsored by Delta Dental of Missouri and the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club.
Camdenton wide receiver Kullen Carlock was also named to the roster but did not participate in the game.
