  • A two-car wreck in northern Camden county necessitated a helicopter evacuation of a Sunrise Beach teen.
Jeffrey Moffitt, 48, of Sunrise Beach, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Route TT near Putt N Bay Drive when he failed to negotiate a turn and ran off the right side roadway. Moffitt then overcorrected, crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Nissan driven by Andrew Caddell, 18.
A passenger in Caddell's car, 17-year-old Megan Rice of Sunrise Beach, sustained serious injuries in the collision. She was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital, then flown by Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.
Caddell sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Lake Regional Hospital. Moffitt sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
The Nissan was totaled in the crash. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, all three people were wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.
As a result of the accident, Moffitt was arrested on two counts of assault second degree and for failing to have insurance. He was put on a 24 hour hold in the Camden County Jail.
