Seventh grade students dominated the Camdenton Middle School Spelling Bee on Thursday, May 29, having four of the top five spellers in the school.

Seventh grade students dominated the Camdenton Middle School Spelling Bee on Thursday, May 29, having four of the top five spellers in the school. Sophia Kurle, seventh grade, won first place and eighth grader, Keaton Meyer, placed second. A three-way tie for third place went to seventh graders Chloe McGowen, Olivia Schanuel, and Lane Oakes.

Students qualified for the school wide spelling bee by placing in the top four spots of their classroom team spelling bees.

After seven rounds of spelling words, the field was down to the final five spellers. Chloe McGowen missed the word “indelible”. Olivia Shanuel misspelled “quarantine”. Lane Oakes misspelled the word “laryngitis”.

The next word was “crocuses”. Keaton Meyer was unable to spell the word. The champion, Kurle, spelled the word correctly and then spelled “diminutive” to take the title.
