  • Searching for an affordable, one-of-a-kind experience for your children this summer? Look no further than the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks where campers enjoy nature, exploring, adventure and outdoor activity in an educational unplugged environment.
Programs range from traditional camp activities such as swimming, crafts, and camp fires to caving, fishing, canoeing and environmental education.
Camp is tailored for boys and girls ages 8-12 and led by 4-H teen camp counselors who mentor campers in various activities throughout the camp week.
“Our goal is to create unique, meaningful camp experiences that will not break the bank,” said Michele Kroll, MU Extension 4-H Youth Specialist.  “Our camps boast a rich history that dates back to over 80 years of camping experience, and we are proud to continue offering exceptional, diverse camping opportunities in beautiful environments throughout the state. Our local MU Extension council worked hard this year with a fund raising campaign from the support of local area organizations and businesses to raise money for camperships so that there wouldn’t be a financial barrier to attend 4-H camp.”
Camping provides an opportunity for young people to have a safe, structured experience in the outdoors with new and exciting learning opportunities. Young people learn independence, responsibility, decision-making and getting along with others while enjoying camping activities in a supervised environment. Camp gives kids a chance to become unplugged and tuned into their environment.
The 4-H Residential Camp is offered July 16-18, 2014 at Windermere in Roach, Mo., and enrollment is now open. Registration material can be received by calling the Camden County MU Extension office at 573-346-2644 or by visiting the Camden County 4-H website. Camperships are available.
