  • Due to the withdrawal of the Democratic candidate for Morgan County Treasurer, filing for this office will be reopened.
Candidate Debbie Hutchison announced her withdrawal from the election on Wednesday, citing unforeseen health concerns within her family that have arisen since she filed her candidacy earlier this year.
"The support I have received has been very much appreciated. I will continue to be a civic-minded individual and do all in my power to support this community," Hutchison stated in the press release issued Wednesday. "Thank you for your understanding."
Hutchison was the sole Democratic contender for the position, but the three Republican candidates remain including incumbent Louella Pryor and challengers Steven Roy Trotter and Kimberly Gunn Ingersoll.
The filing for the office will be open again at the Morgan County Clerk's Office in Versailles from 8 a.m. Friday, May 30-5 p.m. Thursday, June 5 - excluding Saturday and Sunday.
According to the county clerk's office, those interested in this position will need to obtain a signed affidavit from a surety company, authorized to do business in this state, indicating that the candidate meets the bond requirement for the office county treasurer, pursuant to RSMo 54.040.1.
For additional information, contact Morgan County Clerk Cathy Daniels at 573-378-5436.
If no Democratic candidate signs up during the refiling period, the election will be decided in the primary Aug. 5 between the Republican candidates.
In other Morgan County elections this year, incumbent Presiding Commissioner Democrat James Vaughan will face Republican challenger James Bryant in the November general election. Republican Julia Crabtree will face incumbent Democrat Cathy Daniels for County Clerk. Lori Moon, Monica Cable and Nancy Bemboom have filed for the Circuit Clerk position currently held by Cheryl Morris.
Associate Circuit Court Judge Kevin Schehr, a Republican, has filed for re-election and is being challenged by Republican Jeffrey E. Green.
Other elections in Morgan County will see incumbents go unchallenged including Collector Kathy Francis, Prosecuting Attorney Dustin Dunklee and Recorder Nancy Boles.
