  • A Miller County man is behind bars after he was arrested in connection with a child pornography investigation.
    Stephen G. Strobel, 24, of St. Elizabeth, was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol May 12. Miller County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Howard filed two felony charges for possession of child pornography against Strobel who remains in jail in Miller County with bond set at $500,000.
    A press release from the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's office states that investigators seized a cell phone and computer from Strobel's home and obtained a search warrant from the prosecutor's office as part of the ongoing investigation.
    The press release states the investigation of Strobel stemmed from law enforcement in Ohio.
    A probable cause statement filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol states that investigators found about 15 pornographic images and videos of children. Strobel allegedly told investigators he knew the subjects of images and videos were under the age of 18. The statement also said Strobel sent about 10 of the images he received to other people via an iPhone.
    Strobel had been employed as a teacher at the St. Elizabeth R-IV school district and has been placed on administrative leave. Howard noted that the school district has fully cooperated with law enforcement in cormection with the investigation and responded "absolutely correctly" and immediately took appropriate steps to notify and provide pertinent information to parents and students concerning the situation.
    The investigation remains ongoing with the possibility of additional criminal charges as the case proceeds.
    Strobel's arraignment is set for May 19 in Miller County.
