  • With a season-low score of 315, the Laker Golf team finished third in Sectionals on Monday. After finishing second at Conference and Districts, the team headed to Sectionals in Carthage.
In order to advance as a team to the state meet, the team would have had to place first or second. Although they had their best match of the year, the team was five shots out of second.
Three team members, however, qualified individually to move on to the state meet.
Junior Michael Pfitzner, who placed first at Conference and District, shot a 75 and will be advancing along with sophomore Braden Demark with a shot of 77 and sophomore Michael Hake with a shot of 79.
Even though Coach Todd Nicklas would have liked to be able to send his entire team to state, he is very proud of how the team performed on Monday.
"It is our best round of the year and I am super proud of that," Nicklas said.
The State Golf Meet will be held in Cape Girardeau on May 19 and 20.
