  • Nick Horne and Alexis Lumley capped off a successful season with a strong fifth place at the MSHSAA State Speech and Debate tournament on April 26 at the University of Missouri campus in Columbia, Mo. The duet pair had already earned a spot at the prestigious National Forensics League national tournament to be held in June at Overland Park, Kan.
“We were really proud of their performance. The finals room (top 8) was one of the toughest I’ve seen, and I felt they could easily place anywhere from fifth to first”, said head coach Tom Martin. “These two have really exemplified what our program is about. They have put in a tremendous amount of work, collaborated with numerous members of our staff, and have been an outstanding outreach in our community. Their success is well deserved.”
Several other members of the Camdenton squad also qualified for the State tournament. Lumley narrowly missed the final round with her Dramatic Interpretation as did Katie Barnstable with her Humorous Interpretation.
On the debate side, Derrick Ritchie and Mason Taft competed in Public Forum Debate, and Alex Mades and Emily Zaretzky in Policy Debate.
