A short distance off of Interstate 44 at Gray Summit makes this an excellent place to spend the day.
“Your Pet, our Passion” is the motto for Purina Farms. The 300-acre farm is situated in the rolling hills that lay merely two hours from the lake area. As early as 1926, visitors could take guided tours of the farm by wagon. Today, the farm offers a big variety of fun things to do for the entire family of every age group. Start your adventure at the Visitor Center. Open from March to November the farm is much more than a pet food factory.
The farm has a huge Purina Event Center that is open year-round for shows and spectators. Admission and parking are FREE unless noted on the event calendar. They host more than 40 dog and cat shows each year. Attending a cat or dog show is a great way to learn more about different breeds by talking with reputable breeders.
At the Visitor Center there are wagon rides, cow-milking demonstrations, baby animal petting area, Animal Barn and Hayloft Play Area, canine performances, Gift Shop, and a Snack Bar. During the season there are features that include: the Springtime Village, Judy's 1st Birthday Celebration, International Cheese, Wine & Canine Festival, Countrytime Bluegrass Festival and Kids Country Carnival, Mom's Market, Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge, Haunted Hayloft, Dog/Owner Look-alike contest, Pet-acular Holiday Bazaar, breakfast & craft workshop w/Santa, Birthdays, field trips, Family Events & Celebrations and fund raisers. These events are in addition to the every-day fun available to visitors.
They offer the Purina® Pro Plan® that provides a “unique way for dogs to learn new and exciting skills.” Purina shares their knowledge of their trainers with dog owners everywhere. Learn more at ProPlan.com or download the P5 free app.
On your way to and from the Farm travelers will find a really-big variety of eateries at the St Roberts/Fort Wood Exit on Interstate 44. For more information about the farm their visitors’ center suggests taking a tour of their website at www.purinafarms.com or email purinafarms@purina.nestle.com
