An Osage Beach man was killed in a three-vehicle accident about 2:31 p.m. April 15 on Lakeview Drive just north of North Ozark Drive in Camden County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Medical Examiner Dee Ballard was Jason W. Kennedy, 38, driver of a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon.
The accident occurred when Kennedy was attempting to pass a 2005 Chevrolet Classic driven by Weldon R. Kennedy, 18, of Camdenton, and struck head-on a 2007 Freightliner UPS semi driven by Adam M. Roberts, 41, of Edwards.
Weldon Kennedy and Roberts were not injured. The deceased was not wearing a safety belt.
Witnesses report seeing the two passenger vehicles racing at a high rate of speed down Lakeview Drive just before the wreck occurred.
Weldon Kennedy was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and not having a driver’s license.
An arrest report on the Missouri State Highway Patrol website said Weldon Kennedy was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, but Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Keedy said that his office is awaiting results from the crash site investigation and a toxicology report to determine whether or not to proceed with the manslaughter charge.
Traffic on Lakeview Drive was limited to one lane for several hours while MSHP officers conducted their investigation.
This was Troop F’s second fatality for April and the 11th for the year.
