A Russellville, Mo. man has been charged with a Class B felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, Class D felony of possession of drug paraphernalia and Class D felony of resisting arrest following a confrontation with an officer on Monday night.

Eldon Police Officer Michael Atkinson was conducting an investigation with 21-year-old Christopher P. Whittle at about 8:27 p.m. Monday, April 14, stemming from pending charges by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Upon making contact, Atkinson located what was believed to be 43 grams of meth in the suspect’s possession along with suspected drug paraphernalia. As the officer was making the arrest, the subject fled on foot. After a brief chase of about four blocks, the suspect was recaptured and transported to the EPD.

Atkinson was assisted in the foot chase by off-duty MSHP Trooper Neil Atkinson and Eldon Police Chief Rodney Fair.

Because of the large amount of meth involved, the EPD said in their initial press release that they are seeking federal charges against the suspect.

Whittle is currently being held on a $200,000.00 bond.
