The Camdenton R-III School District Education Foundation’s biggest project — the “Elegant Evening” — is fully underway.

Many “stars” will shine on this special evening scheduled for Friday, April 25, at the Camdenton High School Commons area.

One of the distinctive elements of this fundraiser event is the Foundation’s Hall of Leaders recognition. This year’s inductee, Jody Nichols Newman, is being honored in the category of Outstanding Education Professional. Newman served Camdenton School District for 28 years, 18 of those as Principal of Osage Beach Elementary. She will be honored during the Elegant Evening festivities with an introduction and plaque unveiling.

The Elegant Evening fundraiser supports the Education Foundation’s motto, "Steering the Course for the Future." Serving the District for 12 years now, the Foundation has distributed more than $135,000 toward scholarships to graduating seniors and educators, classroom grants, individual Outstanding Students Awards for those who participate extensively in the Elegant Evening, and other worthy activities that fall outside the District’s operating budget.

This will be the 12th annual Elegant Evening, which serves as the one and only fundraising event for the Education Foundation. In addition to the Hall of Leaders, the numerous talents of our students will be showcased in the areas of art, music, academia, culinary arts, woodworking and agriculture.

The Foundation receives rave reviews on the dinner, fully prepared and served by Lake Career and Tech Center culinary students.

The stars will shine April 25 in an all-new and exciting format. The CHS Jazz Band will be the featured dinner entertainment with, for the first time, the opportunity to open the dance floor. The Art Department will be featured with not only a gallery, but also a live demonstration with audience participation. Guests will be able to view the award-winning Science Research projects and more.

Camdenton resident Marcheta Keedy has attended the Elegant Evening for several years and provides this insight.

“Our school district’s students are so gifted,” she said. “This is a unique chance where I get to see them perform on one occasion and I walk away enthused by their talent every year.”
