Tipton, Mo. – A late rally by the home team sent the Versailles Tigers packing on Tuesday night after an 8-4 loss.

In the first four innings, one run was scored. The Versailles Tigers had the lead after the top of the third inning, a tentative 1-0 lead.

They managed to increase it to a two-run lead in the top of the fifth, but the bottom of fifth is where it all fell apart.

Tipton took off in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs to take the lead back from the Tigers, 4-2.

The Cardinals stood their ground in the top of the sixth, and finished the inning by scoring another four runs.

Versailles looked to rally back in a do-or-die seventh inning, needing six runs to tie the game.

They got two runs in before the game ended with the third out.

Christian Whittle worked from the mound for the Tigers, striking out 10 while going the distance, finishing with 19 first-pitch strikes.

Dylan Ballew led the Tigers with two hits and two RBI's, while Tipton was led by Dylan Cooper with three hits and three RBI's. David Richards followed with two RBI's and two hits.

Dylan Tate worked the mound for the Cardinals, striking out just one Tiger in his six innings, while Richards pitched relief in the seventh, striking out one.

The Tigers return to action Thursday night as they host Blair Oaks at 5 p.m.

On JV, the Tigers fell 5-4 in three innings. The JV boys scored two runs to start the game, but Tipton answered with three in the bottom of the first. Another two runs by Versailles gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead, but two runs by Tipton in the bottom of the third gave the Cardinals JV the win. Versailles' JV falls to 1-1 on the season.
