  • The Lake Sun, in conjunction with weekly newspapers Westside Star and Focus, have compiled candidate information for contested races in the April 8, 2014 election. Check out the links to the left to meet the candidates, read their concerns and solutions, see the issues up for a vote and more.
    Contested races featured (via links to the left) include:
    •City of Lake Ozark
    Filing for Ward 1 alderman are incumbent Don Langley and Patricia (Pat) Thompson while Gerry Murawski is challenging Van Donsel for the Ward 3 alderman seat.
    •City of Laurie
    The mayor's position is up for election, with incumbent Herb Keck facing challenger Scott Fahrer. Bradley Davis is challenging incumbent Allen Kimberling for the Ward 2 alderman seat.
    •City of Osage Beach
    Three seats are contested at the city of Osage Beach (two others uncontested) – Mayor Penny Lyons, Ward 2 Alderman Michelle Myler and Ward 3 Alderman Fred Catcott. Lyons and W. W. (Bill) Stone have filed for mayor, Myler, Phyllis Marose and Bob Matula for Ward 2 and Catcott and Thomas Walker for Ward 3.
    •Camdenton R-III School District Board of Education
    Three seats are open, those of Selynn Barbour, John Beckett and Jackie Schulte. Barbour and Schulte have both re-filed along with challengers Courtney Hulett, Joe Ridgeway and Mindi Sales. Beckett is not seeking re-election.
    •School of the Osage Board of Education
    Three seats are open, those of Mary Whitman, Steven Hermann and Rod Miller. Whitman, Hermann, Michael Ruck Todd Miller have filed. Rod Miller has decided not to seek re-election.
    •Mid County Fire Protection District Board
    Two seats are open on the board, those of Charles McElyea and John Baremore. McElyea has re-filed along with John Page and Jeremy Rugen. Baremore is not seeking re-election. A twelve-cent levy increase issue is also on the ballot.
    •Morgan County R-II School District Board of Education
    On Jan. 21, the Board of Education also voted to place a tax issue on the ballot. Voters are being asked to increase the property tax levy rate by $0.15 per $100 of assessed valuation for a total rate of $2.90 per $100 of assessed valuation. The increase in operating levy will allow the district to match funds for a storm shelter grant that will double as a performing arts center. It will also help offset rising operational expenses.
    •Eldon R-I School District Board of Education
    Voters will have a voice on a no levy increase issue to fund a district-wide storm shelter/early childhood education building.
    •City of Linn Creek
    The mayoral race has two candidates, incumbent Ginny Mueller and Joyce M. Thompson.

    Contested races not featured include: 
    •City of Eldon
    Four seats are open — City Marshal, Ward 1 seat, Ward 2 seat and Ward 3 seat. Incumbent Rodney Fair has re-filed for the City Marshal position along with Kevin Virgin. No one has filed for Ward 1. Sharon Cole-Harms has filed for Ward 2. Incumbent Kim Knopf has filed for Ward 3 along with opponents Timothy Bradley and Derek Nelson.
    •Climax Springs R_IV School District Board of Education:
    Three seats are open for election. Incumbents Larry Gregory and Josh Wolfe have re-filed along with Carl Clark, Bonnie Danner, Brett Davis and Cindy Jungles. Incumbent Sue Bridges did not file for re-election.
    •Eldon R-I School District Board of Education
    Three seats open. Incumbents Chris Hart, Jill Kliethermes and Dennis Schad have all re-filed. Jim Herriman has also filed for a seat. No levy increase issue.
    •Macks Creek R-V Board of Education
    Four seats are open. One seat is for a two-year term and three are for a three-year term. For the two-year term, incumbent Cherie Nations has re-filed along with Stacey Green-Leach. For the three-year term, incumbents Michael Parrack and Connie Russell have re-filed along with Tieha Willis, Josh Lane, Joshua Kingston and Seth Rahmoeller.

    Uncontested races:
    •Camdenton
    The three seats on the Board of Aldermen were filed for by the incumbents, Gerry Rector in Ward 1, Sandy Gentry in Ward 2 and Gary Shepherd in Ward 3.  William Jeffries has re-filed for the open seat on Special Road District "R."
    •City of Lake Ozark
    For the Ward 2 alderman position, incumbent Larry Buschjost is the lone filing.
    •City of Laurie
    Greg Lux is the lone filing for the Ward 1 aldermen position.
    •City of Linn Creek
    For seats on the City Council, all incumbents have re-filed: Rich Janes for a two-year term for Ward 1, Brian Vinson for a one-year term for Ward 1, Bill Mundhausen for a two-year term for Ward 2 and Brian Johnson for a one-year term for Ward 2.
    •City of Osage Beach
    Collector John Berry filed for treasurer with incumbent Kevin Rucker the lone filing for the Ward 1 alderman position.
    •Village of Four Seasons:
    Three seats on the Board of Trustees are open, those of incumbents Gordon Ellison, Arnold Sandbothe and Ranita Jones, who currently is filling the unexpired term of Carolyn Lonergan. All three have filed for re-election and are unchallenged.
    •Village of Gravois Mills
    In addition to the seats filled by incumbents Jack Feller and Bob Swengrosh, who have re-filed, the village has two other vacancies on the five-member board.

    Two spots are open on the Board of Trustees, and both incumbents, Charlie Bott and Ray Kline, have re-filed.
    •Morgan County R-II School District Board of Education
    Three seats are open. Incumbents Brad Chamberlain and Gay Marriott have re-filed along with Dwayne Schad.
    •Camden Ambulance District Board
    Two positions are open. Both Rick Bryant and Ralph Perry have re-filed.
    •Lake West Ambulance District Board
    Each sub-district with open spots had one candidate file — incumbent Ron Riley in sub-district one and incumbent Tom Roof in sub-district four.
    •Lake Ozark Fire Protection District Board
    One seat will be open, and incumbent Charlie Kempf has filed for re-election.
    •Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Board
    One six-year term is up for election with one filing, incumbent Bob Smithey.
    •Gravois Fire Protection District Board
    One six-year term is up for election with one filing, Lee Wilson. Incumbent Leroy Hayes did not re-file.
