A fugitive sex offender from the Lake area has been captured in the state of Oregon.
Timothy Wayne Register, 49, formerly of Sunrise Beach is in custody at the Dechutes County Detention Center in Oregon awaiting an extradition hearing in order to be sent to Morgan County.
Register was arrested without incident the morning of Jan. 21 by officers with the Bend, Ore. Police Department and the Dechutes County Sheriff's Office.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Bend Police Department Jan. 20 regarding a possible warrant for Register's arrest in Morgan County.
A no bond capias warrant out of Morgan County for failure to obey a judge's order, signed by Judge Stan Moore, had been issued for Register on Oct. 14, 2013.
The warrant was issued after Register removed his court-ordered GPS bracelet, later recovered in Eldon, on Oct. 13 prior to a sentencing hearing scheduled for Oct. 17 after being convicted July 24, 2013 on charges of statutory sodomy and child molestation.
With the nature of the charges against Register, an alert was issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center and the U.S. Marshal's Service provided assistance to Morgan County on the case.
After being contacted by the Bend Police Department, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office shared Register's mug shot and photos off his tattoos.
According to a press release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, the Bend Police Department had received a phone call from a bondsman out of Missouri in reference to a possible phone number for Register.
After confirming the warrant with Morgan County, Bend police officers got a warrant to get the location of the phone number in question from the phone company. It was found to be located at a motel in the City of Bend, Ore.
With the assistance of the Dechutes County, Ore. Sheriff's Office, Bend police officers placed a surveillance detail on the motel room in question, then obtained a warrant for the motel room on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 21.
As Register exited the room Tuesday morning, he was approached by Bend Police officers and Dechutes County Sheriff's Office deputies and K-9 unit and taken into custody.
Once Register is extradited back to Morgan County, he will finally face the sentencing hearing for his crimes.
