  • Rocky Mount homeowner scares away would-be burglar; suspect in custody awaiting arraignment

  • A Barnett man is awaiting arraignment in Morgan County after a burglary in progress in Rocky Mount was interrupted by the residents of the home on Brendal Blvd. The suspect, John Fields III, was taken into custody by police away from the house after he had reportedly fled the scene when one of the residents produced his own firearm.

  • A Barnett man is awaiting arraignment in Morgan County after being taken into custody by police following a reported attempt to burglarize a home on Brendal Blvd. in Rocky Mount. John Fields III, 46, was arrested away from the house after fleeing the scene when one of the residents produced his own firearm.
    Around 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Brendal Blvd. residence in reference to a burglary in progress with an armed suspect. Dispatch also advised that the house was occupied by three people, according to the press release from the sheriff's office.
    Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found that the suspect had left.
    Questioning the people at the scene, police found that Fields had entered the residence and threatened the homeowners with a firearm. One of the people in the home had a Carry and Conceal license permit and produced his own firearm in an attempt to protect the other persons in the house, the press release states.
    The suspect then reportedly put his gun down and fled the scene.
    Fields was located a short time later on the property by Morgan and Miller county deputies, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and Osage Beach Police Departments K-9 unit.
    According to the press release, Fields had injured himself while attempting to hide from police and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.
    Fields has been charged with burglary in the 1st degree, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is in custody at the Morgan County Adult Detention Center on a bond of $250,000.00 cash or surety.
