A Rolla man faces a murder charge in the death of a 24-year-old victim found dead Thursday night at a home on Elmwood Drive.
Trevor P. Turnbull, 21, was arrested on the charge of first-degree murder, a Class A felony. He was being held in the Phelps County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
Kyle G. Holzhausen, 24, of Rolla, has been identified as the deceased victim. An autopsy will likely take place early next week, according to Phelps County Deputy Coroner Lenox Jones.
Around 7:26 p.m. Jan. 9, the Rolla Police Department received a 911 report of a subject being stabbed at a residence on Elmwood Drive, a dead-end street off Highway 72 between Summit Avenue and Frost Drive in Rolla.
When Rolla police officers arrived, they found a body, later identified as Kyle Holzhausen, with multiple stab wounds in his chest from an unknown type of object. He was found in an upstairs bedroom of the residence.
According to a probable cause statement filed Friday with the Phelps County Circuit Court, Kyle Holzhausen's parents told police they heard what they believed to be a fight occurring between their son and Turnbull.
Kyle Holzhausen's father, David, reported that he went to investigate and found his son on the bedroom floor with Turnbull standing over Kyle Holzhausen.
Turnbull was asked to leave the residence and he did so.
David Holzhausen told police that Kyle Holzhausen "got up and sat down on the bed, and then shortly thereafter his son fell backwards on the bed unconscious, and then his son died on the bed."
Kyle Holzhausen's parents identified Turnbull from a photo lineup as the person in their son's bedroom.
Around 8:45 p.m. Turnbull was located at a residence in the 1300 block of Woodlawn Drive in Rolla and taken into custody.
When Turnbull was questioned at the police department, he denied being at the Holzhausen residence.
After questioning Turnbull, a detective with the RPD found what he believed to be blood on Turnbull's jacket. The jacket along with other items from the residence on Elmwood Drive were seized as evidence.
In addition to the charge of murder, Missouri case.net, the state's online court records website, also lists a charge of armed criminal action against Turnbull.
This incident is still under investigation by the Rolla Police Department's division of criminal investigation and the Phelps County coroner's office. Also assisting in this investigation are the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Phelps County Sheriff's Department and Phelps County Ambulance District.
