Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. – The Camdenton Lakers’ annual trip to Springfield for the Blue and Gold Tournament ended with the same outcome as last season: a consolation win. Last season’s squad finished in consolation in the Blue bracket, while this year’s team finished in the Gold bracket after being seeded number eight. The Lakers started the whole tournament off with an early morning matchup against Aurora, and the Lakers jumped out to an early 23-15 lead, thanks in part to Jake Decker’s seven points. Aurora managed to close the gap, trailing by as few as four points in the second quarter, but the Lakers pulled away once again to lead 36-27 at the half. The second half saw a change in Aurora’s play, as they bounced back late in the third to pull within one point, outscoring the Lakers 17-9. Aurora’s drive continued in the fourth, and as they outscored the Camdenton squad 17-11 in the quarter, Aurora pushed their way to the next round with a 61-56 win. Kullen Carlock led the Lakers with 24 points in the game, followed by Jordan Knight with 12. The Lakers rallied back in their next game, defeating Conway 60-51, and made their way to the next round, where they sent Morrisville packing with a 67-36 win. The Lakers finished strong in the final game, pulling out a 61-32 win over Ava for the consolation title. The Eldon Mustangs returned from the holiday break on Thursday night, as they traveled to Columbia to take on Father Tolton. Eldon’s varsity girls picked up another win, while the boys fell in overtime with an 81-75 loss. The Lady Mustangs were led to a 59-44 victory by Sara Rhine, who finished with 32 points on the night.
