The second double homicide in two months rocked the usually quiet Morgan County on Feb. 4. Carol and Freddie Wilson lost their lives in an apparent drug-related crime committed by an Eldon man and Jefferson City siblings. Dispatchers received a panicked call from Carol Wilson saying she had been shot and as officers responded to the scene south of Versailles, a white van carrying Derrell Spellmeyer, Mandy Mitchell and Garland Mitchell collided with the patrol car, but it wasn't enough to throw the officers, who arrested all three at the scene. Spellmeyer admitted to pulling the trigger and pleaded guilty to the crime, but the Mitchell siblings pleaded not guilty to the crimes and will face trial in January 2014. Wayne and Mae Wells were killed two months earlier in their Ivy Bend home. Ronald Blowers is accused of those crimes.
