  • The lake area is seeing its first snow of the winter season today. According to MoDot area Engineer, Bob Lynch, the roads are mostly covered with precipitation.
“We are knocking back snow when we can,” Lynch said. “But with cold conditions, it is not melting well.”
Lynch is warning drivers to take caution when on the road.
“Roads are passable, drivers need to slow down and plan ahead,” Lynch added.  “They need to be concerned more about breaking distance when approaching vehicles in front of them or turning.”
Lynch also recommends keeping an emergency kit full of blankets, a flashlight and water in case a driver gets stranded.
Lynch and his MoDOT crews are expecting the snow to slow down between 2 and 4 p.m. Crews will then do their best to clear the roads before nightfall.
Crews are also expected to be out throughout the night.
