  • On Tuesday Nov. 19, 2013, 14 students in Leslie Smith’s science classes at Macks Creek High School visited the mine and physics department at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.  They had the opportunity to see a dynamite explosion, tour the experimental mine, eat lunch in the university cafeteria, and participate in numerous activities using liquid nitrogen with Dr. Pringle in the physics department.  This exciting experience was made possible by an outside benefactor, Captain Eric Forney from Edmonds, Wash.  Forney, a tug boat captain for Foss Maritime, is a long-time friend of the Smith family and enjoys helping kids find out more about the many academic possibilities available to them.  He provided the funds for both the trip and lunch, and was also involved in the trip’s planning.
