Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, lake-area businesses stepped up in a big way to help Lake Regional Cancer Center patients.
Their support through events, donations and services added up to financial support for Lake Regional Cancer Center’s HOPE Program.
Developed in 2012 and completely funded by community donations, the HOPE Program provides supportive assistance for qualifying cancer patients. Those services can include free mammograms, drug co-pay assistance, transportation assistance, free haircuts for women who lose their hair as a result of treatment, support groups and educational events.
Donations also contribute to various community cancer screening activities, purchase of medical equipment for patient comfort and staff education.
During October, the crew from Above & Beyond Roofing of Osage Beach chose to wear pink shirts in support of breast cancer awareness. Owners Ben and Melissa Krokson also made a $1,000 donation to the HOPE Program.
Yacht Club Powersports of Osage Beach donated $100 from every Sea-Doo and Can-Am purchased during the month. Their total donation to the HOPE Program was $1,100.
Panera Bread of Osage Beach sold signature Pink Ribbon Bagels throughout October. Twenty-five cents from each bagel sold was donated for a total of $305.75. And, Andy’s Frozen Custard donated $1 from every pink strawberry shake purchased in October for a total of $100.
Lake Media placed collection containers around their offices and collected $68.
Annually, the Camdenton R-III varsity volleyball team hosts a Dig Pink game to raise funds for various breast cancer programs. This year, they donated proceeds from a Dig Pink breast cancer awareness shirt, created for the game, to Lake Regional Cancer Center. By selling nearly 500 shirts, they provided a $700 donation to the HOPE Program on Nov. 22.
Lake Ozark Fire Protection District firefighters changed out of their traditional red attire and sported pink t-shirts in October. They also sold pink breast cancer awareness shirts and made a $500 donation to the program.
ROOTS Hair Salon in Osage Beach hosted TaTa Tuesdays in October. Each Tuesday, they donated 5 percent of total service sales, for a $300 donation.
“Lake Regional is so grateful to have such a supportive community behind us,” said Terri Hall, director of Fund Development at Lake Regional. “Much of what we are able to do for our patients wouldn’t be possible without support like this.”
