Nancy Mitchell is finally home. On Saturday, Nov. 2, the women of Lake Ozark Christian Church welcomed Nancy with soup and salad luncheon. Thirty-eight women gathered for an afternoon of food, fellowship, introductions, welcome gifts and cards for Nancy.
The wife of Lake Ozark Christian Church’s minister, Gary Mitchell, has been on a journey for the past ten months. She and her husband of 32 years made a decision in late 2012 to move from Oklahoma to the Lake of the Ozarks when he accepted the position as pastor. Pastor Gary begin his position at LOCC in January 2013, however, Nancy stayed behind to complete her teaching contract and apply for teaching positions in the lake area. The Oklahoma natives had strong family roots in their state, a home to sell and years of accumulated “stuff” to sort including two storage units with many school supplies.
Nancy has been a teacher for 15 years and admittedly had separation issues when it came to leaving her beloved children behind. In late summer, she accepted a teaching position at Camdenton Middle School where she teaches special education classes.
“It is a rewarding and challenging position,” she said. “The school and staff are just wonderful.”
In October their home in Oklahoma sold and they are now both officially Lake of the Ozarks residents along with their two dogs and cat.
“We love the lake, the community and most of all, the warm, loving congregation of Lake Ozark Christian Church,” Nancy said.
In addition to settling into her new teaching position, Nancy has become an active participant at LOCC, including lending her beautiful voice to the choir.
