  • Letter to the editor: Government programs can be helpful

  • At 82, I have now been a government Medicare patient for 17 years. During this period, I have been shepherded through a heart attack, major cancer surgery, and a couple of hernia repairs. I have no complaints and probably owe my life to what some people think are unnecessary intrusions.

  • *Editor’s Note: This opinion is in response to a Lake View titled “Your choices are your own” by Tony Bonney published in the Wednesday, Nov. 13 Lake Sun.
I don't know who forced Tony Bonney to break out his keyboard to address some of his peeves, I suspect it was his choice. In which case he probably belongs to the grumbling group of narcissist republicans who do nothing constructive and spend all their waking hours blaming and lying about the Obama administration.
At 82, I have now been a government Medicare patient for 17 years. During this period, I have been shepherded through a heart attack, major cancer surgery, and a couple of hernia repairs. I have no complaints and probably owe my life to what Mr. Bonney thinks are unnecessary intrusions. I would add that the administration of this program costs only a fraction of a comparable private policy. Perhaps he would like to explain his personal ideology to the millions of Americans that rely on charitable clinics, unfunded ERs, junk insurance policies, or no access to medical treatment at all.
Mr. Bonney sends a very mixed message. On the one hand he champions individual choice and personal freedom. Then on the other he feels that those who disagree with him are 'hypocrites' and look like 'a bunch of corn pone,close-minded, redneck nitwits'
    Charming Mr Bonney, just
    charming!
