  • A blown tire caused an accident Saturday afternoon that prompted a Staff for Life helicopter evacuation. Rick Lawson, 33, of Gravois Mils, was driving a 1995 Jeep on Route J near Highway 135 in Morgan County when the vehicle's right rear tire blew out. Lawson overcorrected the vehicle into the path of a 2008 Toyota driven by Donald Batliner, 57, of Gravois Mills. Lawson, who, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected in the wreck.
A Staff for Life helicopter transported Lawson to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries. Batliner sustained moderate injuries in the wreck.
