The Lake Arts Council sponsors an “Art at Willmore Lodge” event each month on the second Thursday from 5-7 p.m. The council provides wine, punch, snacks and an opportunity for the public to meet and greet active members of the art community.
The Nov. 14 presentation will feature ten writers from the Lake of the Ozarks Writers Guild who will read selections from their work and be available to answer questions and autograph their books.
Dr. Larry Elton Fletcher will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Christina Williams will lead off reciting passages from her illustrated rhyming early reader books Dragon at the Cabin and The Dog in the Bog. She has also published a novel Destined Love Is Immortal (War Gods Series) and a 40 page e-book prequel Immortal Nobility, and is working on a sequel.
Larry Fletcher will read from his new book, Charlie Chasers, a documented history of the United States Air Force AC-119 “Shadow” gunships in the Vietnam War.
Dwight Weaver needs no introduction to Lake residents. He has written several documentaries about the history surrounding Bagnell Dam and will read from his latest book, Images of America: Osage Beach, Missouri. Other recent books by Dwight are a Pictorial guide to Ha Ha Tonka and Historic Bagnell Dam Boulevard, Past and Present.
Bob Mellberg will read from A Grandfather’s Dream of Fair Women, a book about twenty-two American illustrators who conceived the “Ideal American Girl,” a twentieth-century vogue in magazine covers and other ephemera. His first book, Missouri Proud, is a “Missouri Brag book.” An e-book, The Life and Works of Charles H. Twelvetrees, an illustrator who portrayed clever mischievous children, is in the final stages of completion.
Robert Dean Anderson has included in his historical novels four books related to the Lake area during construction of the Dam: The Limb of the Judas Tree, Ashes, The Bottom of the Lake and Those Farewell Blues. He will read from his book, Ashes.
Elizabeth Simons is an editor by trade and a poet by heart. She has been an active member of the Lake of the Ozarks Writers Guild and the Lake Arts Council and was a feature writer and copy editor for This Month at the Lake magazine, the first full color monthly magazine at the Lake. Elizabeth will read excerpts from her forthcoming young adult novel, To Die For.
Bill Needham will read from his book Intrigue at the Top. Bill is also the author of two other novels, Cuba 51 and E. P. Pony Express.
Susan Croce Kelly will read excerpts from her book Route 66 and will discuss her forthcoming book, The Father of Route 66: the Life and Times of Cyrus Avery.
Page 2 of 2 - Lora Lee Colter recently moved here from the Des Moines, Iowa area. She will introduce us to her novel The Concierge, Hotel Secrets, a fictional account of her experiences working at a hotel in Des Moines.
Todd Hanks will be reading from his book Counterfeiters of Whispering Dell, a pioneer tale based on a true story about a band of counterfeiters, rustlers and murderers that operated from a cave at Ha Ha Tonka.
