  • For a child, Christmas is centered around receiving gifts. Some families simply cannot afford this privilege, but a group in Morgan County is stepping in to help.
For years, Morgan County's Caring for Kids Coalition has hosted Christmas for Kids. Children that normally would not get a Christmas, now can. Toys and funds are donated and then on Dec. 12, families in need come to "shop" for the gifts that would fit their children.
Residents can donate funds or new toys to the cause. If they want to do more, they can adopt an entire family and make their Christmas one to remember.
Donations can be dropped off at the Morgan County Sheriff's office, Morgan County Treasurer's office, Bryant's Osage Outdoors in Laurie, Dollar General in Laurie, Stover and Rocky Mount, Walmart and Sekalaris Ford in Versailles.
Children from birth to 21 if they are enrolled in school can benefit in the program. Last year, approximately 700 children were impacted from Christmas for Kids.
Aside from donations, volunteers are also needed for the pick-up day scheduled for Dec. 12.
"It's quite a community effort," MaryAnne Rouse said.
To volunteer, contact Rouse by calling 573-378-5894. To adopt a family, contact Becky Hagen by calling 816-284-2274.
