According to documents provided by the Camden County Clerk's office, Planning and Zoning Administrator Don Hathaway has been placed on two weeks unpaid leave.
The reasons for the leave are unclear. In his absence it appears Presiding Commissioner Kris Franken will be handling at least some of the day-to-day planning and zoning business.
The Camden County Commission went into closed session regarding personnel issues on Thursday, Oct. 31. All three commissioners were present and all three voted for Hathaway to be placed on leave. The minutes did not contain any information regarding why Hathaway was placed on leave without pay.
Commissioners Bev Thomas and Cliff Luber declined to comment on the issue and Franken did not return phone calls or email requests to speak with him.
Camden County payroll staff told the Lake Sun that as of Monday afternoon, there had not been a change to Hathaway's payroll except for the suspension of two weeks pay.
When the Lake Sun contacted the planning and zoning office, staff said that Hathaway was on vacation for two weeks and that Franken would be taking calls during that time.
Hathaway began working for Camden County on Sept. 26, 2011 and was paid $24.75 per hour.
