A 56-year-old Gravois Mills man is in custody after leading police on a high speed chase through Osage Beach. The name of the suspect has not been released pending charges.
The man was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Friday in front of Hy-Vee in Prewitt's Pointe.
Osage Beach police officers were forced to use pepper spray on the suspect after he refused to get out of the van he was driving.
The suspect was taken to Lake Regional but later transferred to the Camden County Jail. According to police, the suspect had driven from Route KK across the west end of Osage Beach with his flashers and wipers on at speeds reaching 80 mph. Police in pursuit attempted to pull the van over near the Grand Glaize Bridge. After pulling over, the suspect took off and exited on to Passover Road. Once on Passover Road, the man took several detours through the Walmart Supercenter and McDonald's parking lots before exiting on to Highway 42 where he turned in to Prewitt's Pointe.
A golf club in the suspect's custody was taken from the scene of the arrest. Police were unable to confirm the involvement of civilians during the apprehension.
