  • With the first game of the World Series starting Wednesday evening, lake area bars are gearing up to help fans cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals as they take on the Boston Red Sox in a rematch of the 2004 championship.
While the Red Sox may have come out on top then, the Cardinals still have history on their side, having beaten Boston in the 1946 and 1967 World Series.
The Branding Iron Saloon will be showing the games on its 65-inch flat screen TV and on its two 32-inch TVs at the bar.
The Sunrise Beach bar will be offering beer specials — including red beer at no extra cost — this coming Wednesday and Thursday for the first two games of the series. A steak dinner special will be available during game one on Wednesday, and the kitchen will be staying open later to offer appetizers until 1 a.m.
Saloon owners Kelly and Laurie Preator also believe in promoting safe driving. Starting just in time for game one, free limo rides will be available on a regular basis to and from The Branding Iron. Call the bar at 573-374-4969 for details on the service.
