Doris Marie Duckworth, age 77, of Edwards, MO passed away on Saturday night, October 19, 2013 after an automobile accident near her home. She was born November 10, 1935 in Lathrop, MO, the daughter of Herman Theodore and Myra Boswell Bowers.
She grew up in northwest Missouri and graduated from Penney High School in Hamilton, MO in 1953. While attending school Doris enjoyed band and was elected Homecoming Queen.
On October 2, 1955, she was united in marriage to Preston Dale Duckworth in Kansas City, MO. Unto this union, one son and one daughter were born.
Doris resided in Kansas City, MO for 33 years. She was employed by Hickman Mills School District in School Food Service for 17 years. Preston and Doris moved to the Climax Springs area in 1986.
Doris was a member of Camdenton Community Christian Church. She was a church deacon and volunteered at the Lamb House.
Doris enjoyed camping and travel. She drove, flew, and cruised to Alaska on three different occasions. She and Preston spent many winter months at their favorite fishing camp in Hemphill, TX, where her days revolved around communal bonfires, fish fry cookouts, and relaxing in the travel trailer with a good novel. In the last few years, Doris enjoyed traveling to listen to some of her favorite music at Blue Grass festivals. Doris made many good friends through her involvement with the Pommenaders Square Dance Club. She and Preston supported the club by holding various offices through the years and by attending dances across the state as well as the country.
Homemaking was an area at which Doris excelled. Many friends and family members have enjoyed her hospitality through the years. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed embroidery work and cross stitch. She was generous with her time and talents.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband, Preston, of the home, her son Stephen and wife Denise, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and her daughter Myra Lynn and husband David Tushaus, of St. Joseph, MO. Survivors also include two grandsons, William, and wife Samantha Tushaus, of Cordova, AK and Theodore Tushaus, of Columbia, MO, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Doris will be held at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri, on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Coleen Carroll, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cable Ridge Cemetery near Edwards. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the funeral hour.
