The Macks Creek National Honor Society (NHS), had their induction ceremony on Monday Oct. 7, inducting five new members bringing membership total to 14. The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and encourages academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. Through NHS chapter service activities, members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection. The local chapter hosts four blood drives each year, three at the high school and one at Macks Creek First Baptist Church during the summer. Besides ringing bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas, the group also participate in at least two other local service projects per year and provide financial support when possible for victims of disaster like the Moore, Okla. and Joplin tornadoes.
The club's officers are Audrey Whalen, President; Miriah Collins, Vice President; Miranda Collins, Secretary; Seth Larson, Treasurer; and Bryttanee Owens, Historian. The new members are Jaci Hix, Nicki Berry, Kyle Thompson, Tianna Snyder, and Cheyanne Hayes.
The chapter's sponsor, Leslie Smith, said, "I really enjoy working with NHS and helping the kids with their service projects. I'm excited about all of the upcoming events NHS has planned for the school year. Our chapter goal is to not only to keep our service projects local, but also be strong role models for others through our character and leadership."
The Macks Creek NHS Chapter is always looking for new projects to get involved in and looks forward to a exciting rest of the school year.
