Versailles, Mo. – Everyone knew Blair Oaks would win this one.
The only question was by how much.
Blair Oaks has been a consistently strong team for years and years, and this season is no exception.
With a talented offense, the Falcons pounded Versailles, scoring 34 points in the first quarter which inevitably led to a 61-26 Blair Oaks win.
The Tigers' first drive failed to produce, and Blair Oaks took over, ready to get started. On their first offensive play of the game, Jordan Hair found Hadyn Lock with a 52-yard pass to score.
Moments later, the Falcons' Dominic Jamerson picked off Michael Allen's pass and returned it 35-yards to score.
Mike Drehle caught a 37-yard pass from Hair just minutes later to score, and Blair Oaks led 20-0.
Knowing that Versailles had lost three shutout games in a row before scoring late in last week's loss to Southern Boone, it looked as if Blair Oaks would prove too much and force another shutout on the Tigers.
That, however, was not meant to be, as Kyler Turpin returned the kickoff 75-yards to score against the Blair Oaks squad.
Blair Oaks scored twice more in the quarter, with Drehle catching a 53-yard pass from Hair and Lock adding a 13-yard touchdown catch to extend their lead to 34-6. Lock's touchdown reception tied the school record for touchdown receptions in a season at 14.
With three scoring runs in the second quarter, the Falcons increased their lead to 54-6 at the half, all done on just 19 offensive plays.
The Falcons opened up the second half with a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Adam Schell, their final score.
With Blair Oaks' freshmen and sophomores finishing the game, Versailles' starters scored three times in the half as Turpin scored twice with 25 and 23-yard touchdown runs and a 4-yard touchdown run from Michael Allen with less than a minute left in the game.
Turpin finished the game with 107 yards on 12 carries, with Allen completing 3-of-9 passes for 38 yards with a total of 191 offensive yards on the night. Blair Oaks finished with 379, with 180 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Versailles drops to 0-8 this season, while Blair Oaks advances to 7-1. The Falcons' next opponent is Eldon, while Versailles will take on California.
