  • A Jefferson City woman and her children are dead following a two-car collision in Miller County Saturday. Maria Gonzalez-Martinez, 22, and Karla Gevara, 1, were passengers in a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Luis Narvaez, also of Kansas City. Narvaez's vehicle was stopped on the shoulder of Highway 54 in Miller County when the vehicle was rear-ended near Route FF by Huayang Wang, 23. Gonzalez-Martinez was taken to Capital Region Hospital, then to University Hospital in Columbia where she was pronounced dead. Karla Gevara sustained serious injuries and was taken by Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital for treatment. She was later pronounced dead.
    Gonzalez-Martinez's unborn child was also pronounced dead following the wreck.
    Narvaez and another passenger, 25-year-old Jorge Gevara sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Lake Regional Hospital. Wang was uninjured.
    According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Gonzalez-Martinez and Gevara were not wearing seat belts. Narvaez and Karla Gevara were wearing safety devices. This is Troop F's 33rd, 34th and 35th fatality in 2013.
