Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Director Ron Duggan, of Captain Ron's, presented a check in the amount of $796 to an overjoyed Cindy Gum, former president of the Lake of the Ozarks chapter of Missouri Master Naturalists Thursday, Oct. 10 at their monthly chapter meeting in Camdenton. This monetary award was in return for the approximate 72 hours of Shootout support provided by numerous members of the local chapter, headed by fund raising committee chairman Dennis Reed, volunteering at the week long series of Shootout events. The Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalists have many ongoing projects this donation will be used to fund, including their scholarship program. These awards are given to graduates of local high schools and current college students pursuing careers in biology and ecology fields. Over the last 3 years a total of $ 7,000 has been awarded to 5 local students to help forward their education. If you are a higher education bound student and would like to apply for the next round of scholarships, which will be awarded prior to the start of the 2014 school year, please contact Jodi Moulder at the Camdenton Office of the Missouri department of Conservation.
