Bruce Springsteen
The writers of this blog are not music critics, and they don't consider a second (or third, fourth or fifth) mortgage to be a perfectly reasonable course of action to pay for front-row tickets, but despite being a whole lot more middle aged than they were when they first put \x34Born in the U.S.A.\x34 or \x34The River\x34 down on the turntable, still feels like Bruce has something -- OK, a lot of things -- to say about our country and the way we live our lives, things that not a lot of other artists are saying. And whether he's talking about the knife that can cut this pain from your heart, the house that's waiting for you to walk in or what that flag flying over the courthouse means, he's nailing down feelings that are so universal that they can raise your spirits and break your heart at the same time. Plus, let¹s face it, the man rocks.

Record you saying your favorite Springsteen lyric aloud and you could make the movie.

Nothing warms our hearts more than hearing about young people with a love for Bruce Springsteen. Not necessarily those 8-year-olds who get pulled up onstage for “Waitin’ on a Sunny Day,” who we’re afraid may suffer trauma flashbacks later in life, but older teenagers and college students. They could be listening to whoever’s topping the charts these days (not Miley, we hope), but instead they look to the Boss — as well they should.

Into this category we’d place Marissa Grinstead, a New York film major who’s using Bruce as an inspiration for a short film. And she needs your help — check out her note below to see how you can record yourself reciting a Springsteen lyric that will be woven into the movie.

And feel free to send your snippets our way as well (blognessontheedgeoftown@gmail.com)! We have very short attention spans so this is perfect for us.

Take it away, Marissa:

I am a film major in college and I have an idea for a short film I want to make incorporating the tramps. All of Springsteen’s songs have an inspirational quote or a deep meaning to them. Everyone has his or her favorite quote or line from a song. What I want to do is create a story from everyone’s favorite Bruce lyric.

What to do: pick your favorite line or quote from any Springsteen song he has written. Record yourself saying this quote; please do not sing it. I will take the audio from the video sent to me and the video will not be seen at all. All I want is your voice saying the quote.

Please make sure the area around you is quiet when recording your quote. Say it naturally, however you feel. Try to pick a short line or two because I wish to create a story with them all together.

The end result will be a fan-made video incorporating the fans.

For the credits you may leave your first and last name in the email if you wish, just first name is fine too. If you wish to remain unnamed your quote will remain anonymous.

PLEASE PLEASE share this so all Bruce Springsteen fans on tumblr can be a part of this video!

As of now I only plan to use the video for class and I will post the finished product online for all to see. If I decide to do more with the video everyone will be notified.

If there are any questions of concerns please feel free to send an email to brucerunstheworld@gmail.com

As to what the actual video will consist of: I am going to use the Atlantic City music video as inspiration for what I film.

SEND ALL VIDEOS TO: brucerunstheworld@gmail.com
