The family of a Camdenton woman killed in a violent car accident will have to wait until December to discover the fate of the man charged with her murder.
A Cole County judge set the jury trial for Columbia resident Dennis Leporin, 29, for Dec. 17 following a case review Wednesday. Facing a second degree murder charge, second degree assault charge charge, a driving while intoxicated persistent offender charge, driving while revoked charge and driving in the wrong direction on a highway charge, authorities say Leporin drove a pick-up truck the wrong way on Highway 54 in Cole County March 6 when he struck a Saturn Ion driven by 19-year-old Chelsea Fredrickson.
Fredrickson died in the collision. A passenger in Fredrickson's car, Jasper Richmond, was taken to University Hospital in Columbia.
Leporin waived a formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty to the charges in May.
Leporin was charged as a persistent offender on the DWI. According to court records, Leporin had a prior DWI conviction in 2011 in Camden County. Leporin has a history of other traffic related charges in other counties.
He is being held on $250,000 bond.
Leporin's case will be heard by Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green and a jury.
