On average students will spend under 20 years in formal education and more than twice as many years employed in the work force. As the freshmen at Macks Creek R-V begin their high school years, they are having the opportunity to gain exposure and understanding of many career opportunities for them to consider as they continue their education.
This year as the Business Technology class covers entrepreneurship, technology, business plans, communication, business ethics, and more, the class concentrates on a specific career cluster each week. There are 16 career clusters. Each week, a classroom speaker visits class to share personally about their career and field questions from the students.
The speakers have encouraged them to work hard in school, learn about their own interests and strengths, and value the opportunity they have to learn. Guest speakers so far include: Rob Mitchell, Food Inspector; Dona McGuire, for the Hospitality and Tourism cluster; Twila Knight, Personal Home Care; Sgt. W. Moulder, Law Enforcement; Doug Kempker, High School Principal; State Representative Diane Franklin for the Government and Public Administration career cluster and Misty Hicks, Medical Assistant - Certified and Deborah King, Nurse Practitioner Lake Regional Clinic - Macks Creek.
