The Sunrise Beach Planning Commission has recommended approval of a group of voluntary annexation petitions connected to the southern part of the city.
The batch of properties are located off of Kula Bay Drive near the Hurricane Deck Bridge.
The annexations will bring more ground and more residents. The 10 residential properties involved include seven occupied houses, according to village planner Roger Corbin.
Although the city area increased by 25 percent from 2000 to 2010, most of that increase was business parcels along Highway 5 to the Hurricane Deck Bridge. At the time of the 2010 U.S. Census, the village had 431 full time residents.
One of the city's goals in expansion is to offer more affordable water and sewer services to residents in the area.
The property owners on Ambrosia Ln. sought annexation to get on the village's soon-to-be-constructed sewer system.
There were originally 11 applicants but one owner ended up declining annexation because wastewater system users must first be on the drinking water system to get the sewer service.
The board of trustees will make the final decision on the petitions at an upcoming meeting.
No opposition to the annexations has been made to city officials, and annexation is likely.
