Got her driver’s license at age 60

Eva Marie Gendreau, born on July 25, 1912, passed this life to her eternal reward on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Laurie Care Center, Laurie, Missouri.

She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts and was blessed with living 101 years.

She was the loving wife of Jean Charles (Charley) Gendreau who preceded her in death 43 years ago, after being married to Eva for 36 years.

She was also the loving mother of Claudette Manchester of Saugus, Massachusetts, Denis Gendreau of Camdenton, Missouri and Rene Gendreau of Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

She will be remembered as a witty, strong-willed, industrious, hard-working, loving and caring Wife, Mother and a devout Catholic.

She worked as a Seamstress in Fall River Sweat Shops and the big Fabric Mills for many years.

After Charley died, at 60 years of age, she applied and received her Massachusetts driver’s license. She also took over the managing and upkeep of two Tenement houses with several rental units and continued to live on the first floor of one of the houses.

At the age of 92, she gave up driving and continued her daily visits to St. Anne’s Church in Fall River for the morning Mass by walking several miles regardless of the weather, and did so well into her nineties.

God blessed her with a long wonderful life, loving family, children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Laurie, Missouri. Internment will be at a later date.
