  • The Community Foundation of the Lake received a grant from Walmart. Shift Manager Larry Cryer presented the Community Foundation of the Lake with a check totaling $2,500.
“We are so excited! This will help out the community tremendously,” Marvin Silliman, the president of the Community Foundation of the Lake, said.
The Community Foundation of the Lake was established by community leaders to help in building the educational, cultural, health and economic development of the Lake area’s needs.
The Foundation is a growing resource to receive, and grant local community funds donated by families, individuals and corporations. Donations can be in any amount, unrestricted to benefit any community need or restricted by donor designation and used for a specific program or purpose as the donor identifies. All funds stay in the lake area where they benefit many organizations meeting a broad range of local community needs.
The Walmart grant will go into the Community Foundation of the Lake’s Capacity Fund. The Community Foundation awards grants to local non-profit charities out of that Capacity Fund. In the past the Community Foundation of the Lake has awarded grants to; Share the Harvest Food Pantry, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Medical Missions for Christ, Woman 2 Woman, and other local nonprofit organizations.
The grant process is easy. Submit applications when form becomes available around January to the Community Foundation of the Lake. The completed forms are reviewed by a Community Foundation committee. Grants and amounts awarded to local organizations and nonprofit charities will be announced to the public. The Community Foundation awarded 11 grants this year which placed money back into the Lake area community - totaling over $57,000 in under 2 years! Applications are available at the Community Foundation of the Lake’s website www.communityfoundationofthelake.com and also are announced in newspaper press releases and on the radio.
Groups, individuals and businesses can participate in the Community Foundation of the Lake by contacting President, Marvin Silliman (573) 374-7128, or by mailing requests or contributions to Community Foundation of the Lake, PO Box 1413, Lake Ozark, MO, 65049.
