On Friday, Sept. 20, students from the School of the Osage High School and Upper Elementary School who are matched as Big and Little Brothers and Sisters through Lake Area Big Brothers Big Sisters enjoyed a day trip to Windemere Baptist Conference Center in Roach.
The purpose of the trip was to create a stronger bond between each pair through outdoor rock and rope climbing, zip lines, and super swing activities. Sixty four students participated.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network. The goal of the Osage school program is for Sophomores who are matched with third graders to continue until their graduation and the Little’s completion of fifth grade. The students meet for a half hour weekly at the Upper Elementary School.
Adults can also be matched with students in any school serving Camden and Miller Counties. An active community program whereby the adult can pick up his/her Little Brother or Sister at the child’s home to take the child to places in the community or back to the adult’s own home serves more than 20 children.
BBBS is always looking for new Bigs and Littles. Please visit their website at www.lakebbbs.org to learn more or contact firstname.lastname@example.org to refer a Little, become a Big, or to further discuss the program.
