WEAUBLEAU - The second-seeded Macks Creek Lady Pirates took part in the Weaubleau Tournament over the weekend and came away with a fourth place finish.
Macks Creek made quick work of the Lady Tigers of Humansville, winning their first round game by the score of 18-0. The Lady Pirates scored 14 runs in the first inning, batting around twice, and four more in the second.
Sydnee Daugherty paced the offense with a two-for-two game at the plate. She also walked, scored two runs, and collected two RBI's. Jaci Hix went two-for-three, with one of her hits being a two-RBI home run. Miriah Collins, Faith Manning, Morgan Mashburn, Juli Hix, Haley Linton, and Micah Schmidt each collected a hit in the contest, with Juli's being a triple. Jaci, Juli, Linton, and Collins each scored twice while Mashburn, and Manning each scored three runs. Schmidt and Brooke Hussey each scored a single tally for the victors. Jaci, Juli, Linton, and Schmidt also collected two RBI's.
Jaci Hix moved to 3-1 in the circle with the win. She worked all three frames, striking out six, walking one, and allowing two hits.
Game Two: (3) Montrose 8, (2) Macks Creek 5 (Semifinals)
Macks Creek was defeated in the semifinals by the Montrose Lady Blue Jays in game two with a final score of 8-5. Montrose struck for four runs in the first, taking advantage four hits and three walks to do the damage.
Macks Creek took the lead in the second. After a fly out and strike out, Brooke Hussey reached on an error, Micah Schmidt walked, and Jaci Hix singled to left to load the bases. Miriah Collins following by driving an 0-2 pitch to the outfield, plating both Hussey and Schmidt. Faith Manning would drive in Jaci when her ball at third was misplayed before Morgan Mashburn would collect a double to put the Lady Pirates ahead 5-4.
The Lady Blue Jays would put runners at second and third in their half of the third, while the Lady Pirates would load the bases, but be unable to push anything across.
In the top of the forth, Montrose tallied four more runs. They used an error, three hits and a fielder's choice to take the lead for good. Macks Creek loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, utilizing a walk and two hit batsmen before a strikeout ended the game and the time limit would be reached.
Morgan Mashburn fell to 3-2. She worked all four innings, allowing eight runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out two, walking four, and hitting one batter.

Jaci Hix paced the offense in game two with another two-for-three outing. She also scored a run. Miriah Collins, Mashburn, and Haley Linton collected the only other Lady Pirate hits. Collins, Faith Manning, Linton, and courtesy runner Hayley Brown crossed the plate once apience. Collins had two RBI's while Mashburn collected one.
Macks Creek saw a walk-off hit-by-pitch end their chance at a third place finish in their third game of the day against the Stockton Lady Tigers, falling 5-4.
The Lady Pirates took an early lead by plating one run in the first. With two outs, Faith Manning singled and stole second. Morgan Mashburn then smacked a double to right-center field, pushing Manning across. Stockton would tie the score in the bottom of the inning at one.
Macks Creek took a 4-1 lead with a three run fourth. Mashburn led off with a single and stole second. Following a pop out to short, Sydnee Daugherty walked, with Mashburn moving to third on a wild pitch, Haley Linton would walk to load the bases. Brooke Hussey then singled to center, bringing in Mashburn. Daugherty and Linton would later score on an error by the second baseman on a ball hit by Jaci Hix to create the three run lead. Hussey would be out at the plate attempting to score on a wild pitch during a Miriah Collins at-bat.
Stockton would plate two more in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 4-3. The Lady Tigers would plate two runs in the fifth to end the game in walk-off fashion. With one out, Macks Creek pitcher Jaci Hix hit the next batter. The next at-bat saw a pop fly to center field, which was dropped, allowing the tying run to sit at second and the go-ahead run to reach safely. After a strike out, a walk helped to load the bases. A slap-hit just over the glove of the pitcher allowed the tying run to score, and a hit-by-pitch brought in the go ahead run and end the game.
Jaci Hix dropped to 3-2 with the loss. She worked four-and-two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out three, walking five, and hitting one batter.
Morgan Mashburn paced the offense in the game with a two hits in three at-bats. She scored a run and collected an RBI as well. Jaci Hix, Faith Manning and Brooke Hussey collected the only other Lady Pirate hits in the contest. Manning, Daugherty, and Linton scored the only other tallies. Hussey also had an RBI.
Page 3 of 4 - The Macks Creek Lady Pirates returned to action on Monday night, plating five runs in the bottom of the sixth to put away the visiting Lady Cardinals.
Trailing 11-7 in the sixth, Micah Schmidt led off the inning with single and moved to third on a Jaci Hix double to left field. Following a walk to Miriah Collins, Faith Manning was hit by the pitch, allowing Schmidt to score. After a strikeout, Sydnee Daugherty was also hit by a pitch, bringing in Jaci and cutting the deficit to 11-9. Juli Hix would then hit a sacrifice fly to right and push Collins across. With two outs, Bryttanee Owens placed a bunt down the third baseline, where it was played by the pitcher and thrown in the dirt at first, allowing her to scamper to second, Manning to score, and Daugherty to move to third. Daugherty would later score on a wild pitch to put Macks Creek ahead by a run. Halfway went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to end the game.
"This one was crazy from start to finish," commented Coach Jason Trusty, "they scored, we scored. The cycle kept going and we never quit."
The Lady Cardinals plated a single tally in the first and again in the second for an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Macks Creek scored three. Juli led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a Brooke Hussey ball that was misplayed at third. Haley Linton reached on a fielder's choice to third, where Juli was erased. Hussey would move up on consecutive wild pitches to score a run. Schmidt then walked and courtesy runner Owens stole second. She and Linton would cross the plate on a Jaci Hix double to give the home team the lead. The Lady Pirates would plate three more in the fourth for a 6-2 advantage.
In the fifth, the Lady Cardinals tacked on six runs to take an 8-6 lead. Macks Creek plated a single run in their half to cut the lead to one.
In the top of the sixth, Halfway plated three more runs for an 11-7 advantage. Gumm and Spears again singled. Elle Redford would reach on a error by the second baseman, which plated Gumm, just ahead of an Abby Parsons RBI-ground out to second. An error by the right fielder allowed another run to score and gave the visitors four run cushion heading into the bottom of the inning, setting the stage for the Lady Pirate comeback.
"I keep telling my girls that as long as we have out, we have life," said Trusty, "we put that philosophy to good use tonight in the sixth."

Jaci Hix picked up the win with two innings of relief and now sits at 4-2 overall in the circle. She allowed three unearned runs on two hits while striking out two and walking none. Morgan Mashburn received a no-decision in the contest. The Junior worked the first five innings, allowing eight runs, five earned, on three hits while striking out five, walking four, and hitting two batters.
Jaci Hix also paced the Lady Pirates offense with a three-for-four night at the plate, which inlcuded a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI's. Miriah Collins, Juli Hix, and Micah Schmidt collected the only other Macks Creek hits. Faith Manning was hit-by-a-pitch twice, scored once, and had an RBI, Sydnee Daugherty was also beaned twice, walked once, scored three runs, and had an RBI while Juli walked once, was hit once, and had an RBI-sacrifice fly. Brooke Hussey reached on an error and scored a run, Haley Linton was on by a fielder's choice and a walk and crossed the plate twice, while Schmidt also walked, reached on a fielder's choice and scored a run. Bryttanee Owens scored twice as a courtesy runner and collected an RBI in two at-bats. Daugherty also had an RBI and Collins scored once in the contest.
Macks Creek improves to 7-4 while Halfway drops to 3-7. Macks Creek and Halfway will both be in action at the Hermitage Tournament this upcoming weekend. Macks Creek is the one-seed while Halfway is the six-seed.
