Betty June Benne, age 88, of Gravois Mills, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013, at her home. She was born December 15, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Edwin John and Ida M. (Brunkhorst) Reil. Betty was under the care of Hospice Compassus of Osage Beach, Missouri at the time of her death.
On August 23, 1948, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Louis, she was united in marriage to Harry F. Benne, who preceded her in death in April of 1996.
Betty and her husband, the late Harry Benne, owned and operated Mill Creek Resort in Gravois Mills from 1958 to 1986 and are remembered fondly by many friends and family members for their years on the Lake of the Ozarks.
Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles since 1958, where she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and was also a member of TOPS. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Louis. After she was homebound from illness, she continued to receive pastoral care from Pastor Erik Rottmann of the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles. She was steadfast in her faith and in the love of her family until she was called home by her Lord.
In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler and traveled across the United States with her husband, Harry, visiting 42 states including Hawaii and toured Mexico. Most recently, she enjoyed feeding the birds and the goldfish in her pond, reading and visiting with family, friends and four generations of former resort customers.
She is survived by her son, Michael John Benne of Gravois Mills, Missouri; daughter, Marilyn Kay Brenneman of Gravois Mills, Missouri; grandson, Jacob G. Yoder and wife Stephanie of Arcadia, Florida; nephew, James Manion and wife, Sue of St. Louis, Missouri; nephew, Richard Manion and wife, Carol of St. Louis, Missouri; nephew, John David Manion and wife, Kathleen of Columbia, Missouri; niece, Linda Manion/Glynn and husband, Richard of Ottumwa, Iowa; great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and many friends.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21st, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Versailles with Pastor Erik Rottmann officiating. Graveside services and inurnment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church.
